I wonder If I was a magician what would I do? Can I use that new found power to make this world a better place to live or I may totally turn it upside down? I really don't know, but surely I would reverse clock back, I do day dream sometimes, it is good for imagination and gives you feel good moments.
I remember a beautiful girl I met in the sizzling hot summer of Delhi. Delhi was bit too much for me as it was unbearably hot but after meeting this pale looking English women from London all my complaints seemed like a joke, although she looked like as if she was squeezed by the warmth of the weather but her spirit was still breezy and cool!
It was a wonderful month and a half we had all together and we became good friends, almost 20 years ago, I have not seen her since then but I still consider her a very close friend, She went back to her home country, I went back to my home town, we exchanged hand written letters for a while and then lost touch.
Ten years later, I found out she was fine, although we had lost touch but I never lost the bond we had developed. I was very happy for her as she was getting married to a bright young man and I was married to one of her best friends! everything seemed so perfect, She has one son little older then our oldest son and the other one little younger then our little one. Thanks to social media we were able to communicate and share pictures and what not, one day I saw a devastating news on her Facebook stating that her husband has a rare form of cancer which means "No Creator can't be that cruel" how can you take away father from a five year old and a year old child, what is she going to say when kids ask for their father? They will miss their father so much? who is going to give them piggy back rides and who is going to teach them how to ride bikes, horses, Play cricket and the list goes on and on, Every time I checked my friends update it sunk my heart little more and finally he left all the earthly possessions behind including two angel like children and a wife who was always life of any and every conversation.
I did not knew how to react, My heart cried for two little boys and my friend but there was nothing I can do, I was not a magician otherwise I could have brought him back, nor am I a good communicator that I can lessen her pain with words, so I felt good for nothing. Everyday I think of her and kids it makes think what if it was me, what would have happen to my kids? I was never attached to myself but after having two little ones I feel responsible to raise them and don't want to leave this world till they are married off.
My friend is a brave women, despite all this she wakes up every morning and plays the role of both mother and father for her children, I learnt a lot from her grief and decided to add my two cents by helping cancer patients by driving them to their doctors appointments.
My situation reminds me of a folk tale, where a young man wanted to do something good, so when a young boy died in the village, He went to boys mother and told her that she should consider him as her son and he will do whatever in his power to fill that void...... and he did, he was very helpful, When a sister lost a brother he filled that void by being a brother and so on. One day this young women like my friend loses her husband and this helpful guy goes and says, "don't worry consider me as your husband I will always be around and fill your void and make sure you never miss him" ................Guess what? He was beaten to Pulp and he had no clue as to what did he do wrong........
What I learnt from this is that your loved ones may not be near you but someones loved one may stay right next door or may need a hand when putting grocery in the car with two kids hanging on the shoulder, Just step ahead and help otherwise you may lose the opportunity nurture your own soul.
